Removing the brake drum and sprocket lock nut

Removing the lock nut used to secure the rear brake drum and rear wheel sprocket has always been a challenge. The nut, more often than not, shows the scars of mis-applied tools and brute force, usually in the form of a steel drift or a chisel.

The tool that I use is referred to as an adjustable face spanner wrench, available in our "Tools" section. The wrench consists of two legs with pins on each end that index into the perimeter notches on the lock nut.
